A SMART move… Smart Car on a Dyno - What are the real numbers?

So we had a couple of people come into our Corona store on Railroad Street last week. They wanted to dyno their cars. We’ve had a Dynojet at our location for over a year now, and we said “sure”! Turns out the cars they wanted to test for horsepower were a little outside of what we normally test here at Brothers Performance. Usually we see Mustangs and Camaros. Some corvettes, even a Cadillac once. Well what these folks were driving were those cute little “Smart Car”s.

Um, ohhhh-kay. Sure.
(videos after the jump!)

We’re not snobs or anything. I mean heck, if you are looking to see what kind of power you can lay down on the pavement, then you’re our kind of people, and we’re more than happy to help and maybe give a few pointers along the way.

So I couldn’t help but make a couple of videos of the cars being put through their paces. I’ve taken to just bringing my video camera into work every day because you NEVER know what’s going to drive into the parking lot these days. Boy, am I happy I did!

The first car was a brand-new, bone stock 1.0 liter equipped Smart passion coupe in a “smart” shade of green (pun intended). I had some fun making this video, and while it’s a little tongue-in-cheek (the smallness of the car was the inspiration) we are deadly serious when it comes to horsepower. (watch the video)

The 1.0 liter tested out at 62.5 horsepower. Considering that the car itself weighs well less than a ton (1600lbs) that’s really not too bad. I mean, for what it is, which is an eco-friendly commuter-about-town car.

The next Smart had been modified a little with headers (which are very evident in the soundtrack of the video) and some other goodies (watch the video)

When you consider the small engine under the, er, rear bonnet, a difference of 10 horses is pretty great… and as our dyno technician said, it sounded really great, too!

It’s not often that we get the chance for such fun videos like this. I love, love, love to see those high performance cars get put through their paces here at Brothers Performance. One of the perks of the job as far as I’m concerned. But I have to admit it was really a hoot to see these little commuter cars giving everything they’ve got too!

If you’d like to see what kind of power YOUR ride is “putting to the pavement”, our centers at 2012 Railroad Street in Corona (map here), and 3060 Performance Circle in DeLand Florida (map here) have dynojets ready test your car. Give us a call (800-486-2681) to make an appointment! …no matter WHAT kind of car it is!
