So SEMA is well under way, and boy are the cars HOT and the news FLYING!!! New Parts, New Customizations, News every hour (it feels like, anyway!). Part one of our SEMA coverage from Las Vegas is going to be cars on the OUTSIDE… If you’re familiar with the Specialty Equipment Market Association convention in Las Vegas at all, you’ve heard that the show on the OUTSIDE is almost as hot as the show on the INSIDE (no desert heat pun intended… it’s November and every day is a balmy and breezy 85 degrees).

Ford’s press release earlier this week brought to light a half dozen Mustangs that will be appearing at the SEMA show next week in Las Vegas included in this press release was the previously announced Steeda Q Mustang. Noticeably absent was the Saleen version of the Mustang. So almost as if to say “Hey! Remember we’ll be there too!”, Saleen let slip several more shots of the debuting Saleen S281 version of the Mustang.

Saleen Performance Vehicles (formerly just Saleen, Inc.) teased us all with some shots of their upcoming s281 Mustang. The concept I saw before was less than stunning, but these certainly do inspire a LOT more curiosity on our parts! We really like the new spoiler on the rear end, and the diffuser at the bottom rear is pretty serious looking too! Love the squared off tips of the exhaust!

Steeda sent out some “sneak peek” images of their upcoming “Steeda Q” 2010 Mustang. Still no word on any actual horsepower increases, so it appears that the “Q” will have mostly exterior and handling tweaks. Steeda has already released a number of tweaked parts for the 2010 Mustang. A Beautiful 2004 Competition Orange Cobra Convertible drove into Brothers Performance parking lot the other day for a quick couple pulls on our Dynojet. The current owner had purchased the car just a couple weeks previous, and while it only had about 20,000 miles on it, he was curious as to how many horses he really had under the hood.

I gotta say, this car is in exceptionally nice condition for being more than five years old! Even considering the low mileage, it looks like this vehicle only saw the streets on it’s way to car shows and drive ins.

I guess a couple of writers for Car and Driver magazine made it out to a “run what ya brung” night at a South haven, Michigan track last night and saw some thinly disguised 2010 Mustangs. Seems some engineers over at Ford released a couple of new ponys onto the track with a new, beefier “track pack”. (more…)

Here’s how the story circulating the internet goes…

Three nineteen year old boys talked someone into giving them the keys for a test drive of a brand new for 2010 Ford Mustang GT. This car comes stock from the dealership with more than 315 horsepower, and by the pictures included here,  that’s about 314 horsepower more than these hooligans could handle. I’m not sure if the failure is more in the poor driving skills or in the dealership that handed over the keys to a brand new $35,000 muscle car without insisting that a salesman accompany them.
