All of the major automotive news blogs are heralding a blunder on Facebook and later Twitter that the 5.0 Liter engine is in fact returning to the 2011 Ford Mustang. Evidently someone taking part in the preview or pre-planning of the Detroit Auto Show (that takes place in early January) has seen the V8 “coyote” powerplant Mustang, or the specs for the V8 mustang, or the signage for the V8 Mustang and posted about it on their facebook and twitter pages… (ok, someone broke the press embargo and somehow conveniently forgot about the waiver they signed.).

So last week, Ford unveiled the new 2010 Mustang Cobrajet drag car at SEMA. The 5.4L supercharged engine inside this factory-produced turnkey race car puts out incredible horsepower that has produced wins at NHRA events across the country, including the Winternationals where the first Cobra Jet premiered back in 1968. Now THAT’S racing heritage (fitting right along side all the other Mustang’s racing heritage)!

A Beautiful 2004 Competition Orange Cobra Convertible drove into Brothers Performance parking lot the other day for a quick couple pulls on our Dynojet. The current owner had purchased the car just a couple weeks previous, and while it only had about 20,000 miles on it, he was curious as to how many horses he really had under the hood.

I gotta say, this car is in exceptionally nice condition for being more than five years old! Even considering the low mileage, it looks like this vehicle only saw the streets on it’s way to car shows and drive ins.

As I wrote in yesterday’s blog (here), Brothers Performance held a Grand Opening Celebration at their new Deland, Florida facility last Saturday, August 1st. Along with the Grand opening sale, the Mid-Florida Mustang Club and their Young Owners held a car show. Brothers Performance also had Boy Scouts there barbequeing, water slide and bounce house for the kids, and ice cream truck for cold treats and Ker’s Wing house girls.

It all started early for the folks at Brother’s Performance:

I see that Ford has built another custom Mustang for the Experimental Aircraft Association’s “Gathering of Eagles” fundraiser. The Aviation themed Mustang has been named the AV-X10 or “Dearborn Doll”. Patterned after the stylings and trim from the quintessential American World War II Fighter Mustang fighter planes (see picture), The 2010 AV-X10 Mustang will be auctioned off during the 2009 EAA Air Venture Oshkosh fly-in convention which takes place July 27-August 2 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Three quick items today as I settle in after vacation, all camaro related:
Word on the ‘net is that GM will soon be adding a couple of new colors to the 2010 Camaro’s available pallet.
Who knows what Opel Green is anyway?
In addition to shades of reds, blues, and grays, they’ll be adding Opel Green (a sly nod to their new owners, perhaps? It’s supposed to be a darker green, as in the color of money?) Synergy Green (apolitically correct color name, as GM execs are truly hoping that corporate synergy will mean that they’ll be left alone. Supposedly a lighter shade of green) and <GASP!> WHITE!
These additional colors are sure to guarantee dominance of sales of Camaros over Mustangs for years to come. No color chips or examples of what the car will look like, since this is all still in the rumor stage.
(end sarcasm)
By the way, be sure to check if your wonderful V8 camaro has been named in this product recall. Evidently, the positive battery cable can rub against the motor mount and eventually short out the starter causing the vehicle to not be able to start or re-start, perhaps go dead while driving, and even possibly cause an engine fire! If your camaro is one of those recalled, contact your local GM dealer, do NOT drive the car. The dealer may decide to flatbed it to their shop. I partularly liked the picture GM included with the person filing down the motor mount with a hand file(see below).

Another news item that came across my desk is that the 2010 Camaro has been confirmed to be headed to Europe by two GM European heads. Jurgen Keller, general manager at the Chevrolet Germany division confirmed the overall decision Germany’s “Auto Motor und Sport” magazine . As I said, this is confirmed, not just a rumor, but no actual availability dates have been released yet, nor for which areas of Europe they can be found first. Britain’s “Autocar Magazine” quotes Wayne Brannon, chief executive of Chevrolet Europe, as saying the U.K. will get a right-hand-drive Camaro in early 2010. About 1,000 hardtops, and 1,000 CONVERTIBLES. Autocar said the U.K. edition of the Camaro likely will be priced above the Vauxhall VXR8, which starts at just under $70,000.
 note: right-hand-drive not pictured.
