Today we have a very picture heavy blog about the return of the 5.0 liter to Ford’s 2011 Mustang GT. Indeed, one of the worst kept secrets of 2010, the 5.0 liter “coyote” engine has been rumored around the Internets for months and months now. Officially released, or dis-embargoed, this week at the Detroit Auto Show, Ford has released scads of images of both the car with the slightly re-styled 5.0 badge on it’s fenders, and of the engine itself.

All of the major automotive news blogs are heralding a blunder on Facebook and later Twitter that the 5.0 Liter engine is in fact returning to the 2011 Ford Mustang. Evidently someone taking part in the preview or pre-planning of the Detroit Auto Show (that takes place in early January) has seen the V8 “coyote”  powerplant Mustang, or the specs for the V8 mustang, or the signage for the V8 Mustang and posted about it on their facebook and twitter pages… (ok, someone  broke the press embargo and  somehow conveniently forgot about the waiver they signed.).

What you are looking at is the new 2010 Steeda Q550 “Streeetfighter” Mustang. This is the kind of Mustang that we love, where not only fine attention was paid to the powerplant (a 50 state emission legal Ford Racing FR550 whipple supercharged 5.4L engine) but to the suspension as well, giving it street (and road) cred to the high horsepower numbers. 2011 Ford Mustang V6

Got a lot of reading for you today. It boils down to this: Ford is releasing specs on the new 2011 Mustang with the all new variable-cam 3.7 liter 24 valve V6 DOHC (dual overhead cam) Duratec engine. This power plant will give the Mustang 30MPG highway mileage yet supplies 305 horsepower with it’s six speed transmission. It’s sure to be big news for those “Mustang Vs. Camaro” fans because it will be more competitive with the Chevy’s 300HP V6 power plant. (more…)
