Hey there! Check out the SEMA video that’s been compiled by the folks at BBK Performance. It’s got some great video of the “big three” manufacturer areas at the show, including the new Corvette Grand Sport, the incredible Jay Leno twin turbo V6 camaro, and some beautiful Ford Mustangs. The host, Bryan Rogers, talks about how these cars apply to BBK Performance products and vice-versa! Of course the video takes the opportunity to show off BBK’s own space at the show which is chock full of performance parts for Chevy, Ford, and Mopar vehicles. But the video itself is chock full of great information and ideas for “tweaking” your own late model vehicle to squeeze every last bit of horsepower from it with just the simplest of bolt-ons. While showing the vehicles and even general atmosphere of the world’s largest automotive aftermarket parts convention and show, the video is fun to watch, as are the SEMA models waving to the camera!

Only 50 Cobra Jets will be produced this year alongside other Mustangs at the Auto Alliance International (AAI) assembly plant in Flat Rock, Michigan. The bad news is that all 50 have been ordered by various Ford dealerships across the country for delivery to customers (so you won’t find any just sitting on a dealer’s floor!). The good news is that Ford has set goals to produce more CJ’s in future years. The REALLY good news? You can build your own!

The Cobra Jet is built off a STOCK V6 Mustang (!) and all of the performance parts are pulled right out of the Ford Performance catalog… so you can build your own CobraJet from the 5.4 Supercharged crate engine and full race prepared automatic transmission with a factory-first launch control/rev limiter that will allow drivers to preset the rpm after they stage the car, right down to the SEMA silver paint and beautiful CJ vinyl striping and decals!

Since its victorious introduction at the NHRA Winternationals in 1968, Ford’s Cobra Jet Mustang has created a legacy of power, performance and triumph.

The 40th Anniversary 2008 Cobra Jet Mustang lived up to the legend of the original, duplicating the NHRA Winternationals victory in 2009 and dominating drag strips across the land.

Today, Ford Racing unveiled the 2010 Cobra Jet Mustang at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show, which marks the continued evolution of the CJ as a factory-produced turnkey race car. In honor of the SEMA introduction, Ford Racing built and unveiled a one-of-a-kind “SEMA Special” silver Cobra Jet complete with a charcoal Cobra Jet graphics package.

“The 2008 Cobra Jet was a great car, it did everything we wanted it to do,” said Brian Wolfe, director, Ford North American Motorsports. “We’re really proud of the car, but then again we’re always trying to make the next one better.

“With the 2010 Cobra Jet, we had the luxury of a longer development cycle and the result is absolutely stunning. Where the 2008 Cobra Jet was an extremely potent starting point for NHRA Stock competition, the 2010 will enhance the car further. We are all excited to see the new Cobra Jet in competition.”

For decades, the Mustang has been the preeminent car in many forms of racing, including drag racing. The 2008 Cobra Jet Mustang added to that legacy this season with high- profile wins at the NHRA Winternationals and U.S. Nationals, and by setting numerous track records across the country.

The 2010 Cobra Jet, like its predecessor, is a factory-built race car that is intended for NHRA Stock and Super Stock racing. The goal for the 2010 Cobra Jet was to enhance the race features to further make its own place in NHRA history. The 2010 CJ will come with all of the features of the 2008 car with enhancements that include options for a full race-prepared automatic or manual transmission, drag race-specific shocks and springs, manual steering and brakes, 8.50 certified rollcage, and an Aeromitive return-style fuel system with trunk-mounted fuel cell.

Additionally Ford Racing engineers have developed for the 2010 Cobra Jet a factory-first launch control/rev limiter that will allow drivers to preset the rpm after they stage the car. When they are ready to leave, all they do is put the throttle pedal to the floor; they don’t have the engine speed to free rev. Previously, the launch control/rev limiter was only available as an aftermarket option.

Much like Ford Racing’s previous Mustang FR500S race car, the Cobra Jet Mustang will get its start at the Auto Alliance International (AAI) assembly plant in Flat Rock, Mich. The entire 50-car run of 2010 Cobra Jets will be built on the same production line that produces the 2010 Ford Mustang production car. Production of Cobra Jets will commence in January, with delivery of all vehicles expected in the first quarter of 2010.

All of the additional parts and pieces for the CJ can be found in the Ford Performance Parts catalog. And since the Cobra Jet is produced from a base V-6 Mustang, any consumer can turn his Mustang into a Cobra Jet by purchasing the parts from the Ford Performance Parts catalog.

The 2010 CJ car features a choice for customers between two supercharged engines or three normally aspirated engines (pending NHRA approval). These options will allow the Cobra Jet to be eligible for more classes in the NHRA, as well as competition with other sanctioning bodies, including NMRA, NMCA, PSCA and IHRA.

All 50 of the 2010 Cobra Jet Mustangs have already been ordered by Ford dealers for delivery to customers. For those customers who missed out on the limited run of 2010 Cobra Jets, Ford Racing has set a goal to provide future versions of the Cobra Jet.

The Las Vegas Convention center is HUGE. I mean like 3 LAS VEGAS blocks huge. Anyone who’s tried to walk around Vegas knows that a Los Vegas Block is about the size of a football field…

Ford is the Official Automotive Brand of SEMA 2009, and with the Mustang being Ford’s best selling car, we were sure to see lots of them out in the parking lot. 281performance Mustangs were very well represented.

Shelby and Roush Mustangs abounded, of course.

One of the greatest things about a Mustang is that you never have to have an identical Mustang next to you at any car show, let alone at a mall. There are SO many ways to customize them, even the front ends rarely look the same! Of course, Brothers Performance sells a fair number of grills, headlights, and hoods! (here)

These headlights (here) are quite popular, especially inside the show.

This black bad boy was especially hard to photograph. Notice that behind
thos headlight splitters the plastic covering the headlights is blackened too.
It was all very “KITT”, but still super cool. Nice Hood, too!

Like many of my friends, an italian designed sports car makes my feel
all funny inside. More than a few of these around the parking lot!

Fellow Corona resident gearheads, West Coast Customs had a large part of
the parking lot carved out for themselves. They brought quite a few examples
of their handiwork as well. I loved this old Bel Air Coupe…

While most of the Ford Mustang world waits breathlessly for an official Street Legal Boss Mustang edition to be designed and released by Ford, automotive designer Larry Shinoda of Team Shinoda recently released details and photos of his own version of a 2010 BOSS Shinoda Mustang.

The BOSS Shinoda Mustang carries an awesome 800 horsepower under it’s hood. This extremely retro Grabber Blue (and black) Mustang pictured here is the first Boss Shinoda Mustang of 2010. Team Shinoda evidently plans on several different styles, horsepower packages, and colors. The one we have pictures of today is stickered with the #10-001 serial number as well as having it stamped into the firewall. Horsepower is provided by the stock Ford Mustang GT 4.6-liter V8 but with a Paxton NOVI 2200 supercharger bolted on.

The exterior of the BOSS Shinoda Mustang is where this car really sets itself apart from the rest of the herd with it’s famed BOSS graphics, side stripes, rear window louvers and rear spoiler. There is also BOSS stripe lettering on the hood with the signature black shaker hood scoop. Other exterior enhancements include a chin spoiler, Shinoda badging, side rear window louvers, rear black out panel and painted headlight splitters.

Shinoda Level II plus suspension which includes new shocks, springs, pan hard bars and lower control arms along with performance sway bars have been added to the vehicle all in an effort to keep the rubber that’s wrapped around a set of 20-inch chrome bullitt wheels on the pavement.

The good news is that if you’re interested in this first 10-001 pony, it’s currently for sale on Ebay for $69,400 (Buy It now price) (click here). Not a bad deal for the very first one, especially if you happen to live around Buffalo, New York (or know someone who does) because that’s where it’s located.  You’ll find a lot more pictures at that ebay link, too.
