Even with the bad weather - we had a great turn out last Saturday with approx 35 cars and about 100 members of the SoCal Camaro5.com family.
Brain Murphy the owner of BBK Performance and Brothers Performance allowed all the members who had driven down in rain and hail to settle into their damp and wet surroundings before giving every one a personal tour of the BBK Performance facilities in Temecula. The CNC Machine building was first on the list followed by the ALL New Exhaust manufacturing building across the street followed by a tour of the All New Brothers Performance warehouse and showroom.

By the time the shop tours were over the sun had started to come thru and the day was looking promising enough to start some Free dyno testing. Some lucky owners of the new Gen 5 Camaros got to see some great horsepower and torque from their rides.
We had supercharged & Turbo charged Camaros as well as normally aspirated rides with the usual bolt on parts. As you can see from the video everyone had a great time and we hope to do it again sometime soon - Thanks Camaro5 for a fun day - it was great seeing you all.

BBK Performance has a line of Headers (full length, “tuned” length and shorties) available for the V6, L99 and LS3 Camaro that is priced very reasonably and have the performance numbers that all of us like to see. The tuned-length “direct-fit” headers go from about $299.99pr in chrome to $499.99pr for the 304-stainless while the full-length headers start at around $499.99 in chrome with the off-road to about $899.99 in stainless with the steel core converters.

For those of you with the V6 we have got you covered too - The cold air system retails for $249.99 and we offer a full length header system that made 32hp and 30ft lbs at the wheels on a stock V6.

The GT350 is back, and it’s going to carry the Shelby name. Wasting NO time from the announcement of the 2011 Mustang and it’s 5.0 liter powerplant at the Detroit Auto Show, Shelby showed off it’s “concept car” which reportedly will hit the streets for real a little later in 2010 with few changes from as it’s shown here.

CLICK FOR MORE

Yes, the GT350 will be supercharged (supplied by Ford Racing) that should push the 412 horses of the 5 liter over the 500HP mark. Baer brakes, Crager wheels and wide, sticky tires and suspension goodies like caster/camber plates, sway bars, and cross member braces will also be added.

I FULLY support that all GT350’s will come in one paint package: white with blue stripes. Classic, classic, classic!

Looking at the pictures, you can see the treatment of the front and rear changes quite a bit from the stock 2011 Ford Mustang GT. Especially noticeable is the controversial taillight area of the rear. The interior pictures show an A-pillar gauge cluster, custom floor mats and the usual “Shelby” badges and “Carrol Shelby” signature, this time in the center console and not on the dash. No doubt the seat backs are emblazoned with either the “Shelby” name or “GT350″ so the mom’s in the Target parking lot will see your good taste in automobiles. … oh wait, it’s both!

500HP, suspension, exterior and interior enhancements (and the Shelby signature) can all be yours for $30,000 over the cost of the base Ford Mustang GT. - *rustles papers* oh yes, the price does include a 45th anniversary GT350 windbreaker and a GT350 car cover (see the spec sheet below).

Or of course, you can buy the performance pieces yourself (HERE!) and have a sleeper GT350 for less money (minus the Shelby autograph, of course). Just please, paint your car white and blue like the real thing.

But Wait! I have little doubt in my mind that more announcements will be forthcoming from Shelby American in the next month or so about more future models. There MUST be a GT500 or a Supersnake in our future, right? Surely they’re not going to stop at only a slightly insane fairly sane 500HP?

Racing legend Richard Petty will be on hand to help auction off the car, and I’m sure the winner will be able to score Petty’s signature somewhere inside, which would only serve to increase it’s value.

All of this was made known when Barrett-Jackson released their catalog of auctions online, even though the info on this Ford was pulled later on that evening. However, as might be expected, in the official Ford announcement, there are several other nuggets of info that I found quite interesting.

Actual car pictured here... light bar not included in auction!

There will be 50 Daytona 500 Pace cars made, each will be available for sale through selected Ford Dealers, with the one actually used in the race being sold at auction later this week. So get down to your Ford dealership NOW to see about ordering your own!

The Pace cars will all be painted in “Racing Red” with the Daytona 500 stripes and logo. They will all be normally aspirated GT models (no superchargers or any other power enhancements) have the Glassback roof option as well as custom “Daytona 500″ lit door sill plates. Also included will be Ford Racing suspension and other goodies like strut tower brace, Ford Racing exhaust and mufflers, and the GT Brembo brake package and tire package.

IF YOU’RE ATTENDING THE 52 ANNUAL DAYTONA 500 THIS FEBRUARY, BE SURE TO STOP IN AT OUR DELAND FLORIDA LOCATION! ONLY 10 MINUTES OR SO AWAY FROM DAYTONA!

There are more great tidbits to be found in the official press release. I’m including it below:

2011 FORD MUSTANG GT NAMED DAYTONA 500 PACE CAR; FIRST FORD TO PACE DAYTONA 500 IN 40 YEARS

* The new 2011 Mustang GT, powered by the all-new 412-horsepower 5.0-liter V-8, will serve as the pace car for this year’s Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 14.
* This will mark the first time in 40 years that a Ford has served as the pace car for ‘The Great American Race,’ with the last time being in 1970 when a Ford Torino GT convertible did the honors. It is Mustang’s first time as pace car for the Daytona 500.
* Fifty special pace car editions of the 2011 Mustang GT will be built and sold to the public.
* The actual Race Red Mustang will be auctioned at the 39th Annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Collector Car Auction on Jan. 23, with the help of Richard Petty, the newest member of the Ford Racing family.

1970 Ford Torino GT Convertible

DEARBORN, Mich., Jan. 19, 2010 – For the first time ever, American’s favorite muscle car will pace ‘The Great American Race.’

For the first time in 40 years, a Ford Motor Company car will be pacing the field for the NASCAR season-opening Daytona 500 when the 2011 Mustang GT, powered by the all-new 5.0-liter V-8 engine, officially starts the race on Feb. 14 at Daytona International Speedway.

“Having the opportunity to pace America’s biggest auto race with a Ford icon like the 2011 Mustang GT is truly an honor,” said Jamie Allison, director, Ford North America Motorsports. “And to have the new 5.0-liter engine powering the car will be a great way to demonstrate its power and class-leading fuel economy.”

This latest version of Ford’s legendary muscle car will be a Race Red glass roof coupe with an all-new 5.0-liter V-8 engine capable of producing 412 horsepower, while delivering a class-leading 25 mpg on the highway.

The one-of-a-kind model will feature a special Daytona 500 paint scheme, Ford Racing suspension, strut tower brace and mufflers, unique painted wheels, and special interior treatment, including specially branded lit sill plates.

The 2011 Mustang GT Daytona 500 Pace Car model is one of only 50 special editions that will be built and sold to the public.

“Everybody loves Mustang,” Allison continued. “That was evident last year from the fan reaction when we announced it was going to be our new model in the NASCAR Nationwide Series starting later this year. This is just another way to showcase a true American icon in its most natural environment.”

The last time a Ford served as pace car for the Daytona 500 was 1970 when a Ford Torino GT convertible led the field to the green flag.

And while Mustang may be a rookie when it comes to pacing the Daytona 500, its 45-year history is firmly entrenched in racing and winning championships. Mustang captured championships last year in the Grand-Am KONI and SCCA SPEED World Challenge, in addition to leading Robert Hight to his first NHRA Funny Car championship.

Another element that makes this year’s pace car even more unique is that it will be auctioned off for charity before the actual race. Later this week (Jan. 23), the Mustang GT Daytona 500 Pace Car will be offered at the annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Collector Car Auction, which is taking place in Scottsdale, Ariz. Seven-time Daytona 500 champion Richard Petty, the newest member of the Ford Racing family, will be on site to help hand over the car to the winning bidder.

All proceeds over the manufacturer’s suggested retail price from the pace car auction will go to help cure childhood diabetes through a donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

About the 2011 Mustang GT
The new Mustang GT continues Ford’s powertrain offensive with an all-new 5.0-liter V-8, which uses advanced technology to deliver 412 horsepower and projected unsurpassed highway mileage of 25 mpg.

The 2011, Mustang GT adds specially tuned Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS), 11.5-inch front and 11.8-inch rear vented disc brakes, and an enhanced suspension featuring an improved rear lower control arm and stiffened rear stabilizer bushings.

For enthusiasts, a Brembo brake package, with larger rotors and calipers from the Ford Shelby GT500® Mustang, unique 19-inch wheels and summer performance tires, is offered; new fender badges herald return of the 5.0-liter engine.

About Ford North America MotorsportsFord North America Motorsports, based in Dearborn, Mich., is responsible for major racing operations in North America, including NASCAR (Sprint Cup, Nationwide Series, Camping World Trucks), Grand American sports car racing, NHRA drag racing, Rally America and the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup. Just try searching “burnout” in youtube and you’ll find everything from a guy on a bicycle somewhere in the middle east pedaling for all he’s worth to an endless number of muscle cars shredding their rubber all over the place.

Doing this in a Mustang GT500 would be especially easy. But laying down the rubber so that you end up with a corporate sponsor logo? Now that would be art… which brings me to this video.

OK, so it’s not real, but CGI. Hey if they can make a Mustang do kick flips and 360’s like a skateboard (here), then why not have it vulcanize some rubber into the shape of the Kendall Oil Logo?

Real or not, it’s certainly smile inducing to watch the GT500 have it’s way with an open spot of pavement, and knowing that the guy isn’t burning up his brake linings or his clutch at the same time that he’s laying a little tire smoke is somewhat pleasing as well.

Today we have a very picture heavy blog about the return of the 5.0 liter to Ford’s 2011 Mustang GT. Indeed, one of the worst kept secrets of 2010, the 5.0 liter “coyote” engine has been rumored around the Internets for months and months now. Officially released, or dis-embargoed, this week at the Detroit Auto Show, Ford has released scads of images of both the car with the slightly re-styled 5.0 badge on it’s fenders, and of the engine itself.

The engine is still based on the same block as the current (since 1996) Mustang’s 4.6 liter, but has been stroked and bored to a true 5.0 liter (how many knew that the 5.0 liter of old was technically a 4.9 liter that Ford rounded up for publicity sake?). The stroke is reportedly 9.2mm and the bore has been enlarged to 9.7mm. But what really makes the difference is both the dual overhead cam with four valves per cylinder versus the old 4.6’s 3 valved single overhead cam. For better torque Ford added some more new technology in the line of the variable cam timing (which the new 6 cylinder for the Mustang will have). This also improves the gas mileage to help Ford’s muscle cars up the CAFE requirements. Finish this off with a new composite material intake manifold and tubular exhaust headers, and you’re looking at the previously released numbers of 412 horsepower but with up to 25MPG freeway (19 city). Redline moved from 6500RPM to an even 7000. All this only requires about 10 more pounds than the old 4.6 Liter, so this 2011 model will likely be the nimblest American muscle car around. Even though the popular Camaro and the Dodge Challenger both offer larger engines, they weigh in significantly heavier than Ford’s pony and unsurpisingly feel a bit heavier through any curves. Speaking of nimble, the 2011 also gets electronic assist power steering.
The outside of the Mustang is largely unchanged, since it just went through a restyle in 2010 and the interior is the same. There are three new paint colors that will be available in 2011 including the “race red” you see here. The others will be “Yellow Blaze Tri-Coat” and for you sleeper car lovers, “Ingot Silver”. The convertible will come with a strut tower brace standard and the GT will have a Brembo brake package with 14 inch front rotors, 19 inch wheels and summer performance tires. Interior gets the “mykey” package and some other niceties like universal garage door opener built in and illuminated sun visors.

Airaid recently announced the availability of their new MXP Intake System for the 2010 4.6L V8 Ford Mustang GT. Installing a Cold Air Intake is one of the easiest performance upgrades you can make to your vehicle. Usually this is a start-to-finish job of 30 minutes, and that includes opening up the box! When you consider that in the particular case of this excellent Airaid CAI, you gain up to 15 real world, rear wheel horsepower and 18 ft/lb of torque, that is a LOT of horses for not even breaking a sweat and using only the most basic of hand tools that even our mothers would have in their kitchen tool drawer!

These Cold Air Intakes with the custom designed metal air dam is available for shipping NOW from Brothers Performance!

All of the major automotive news blogs are heralding a blunder on Facebook and later Twitter that the 5.0 Liter engine is in fact returning to the 2011 Ford Mustang. Evidently someone taking part in the preview or pre-planning of the Detroit Auto Show (that takes place in early January) has seen the V8 “coyote” powerplant Mustang, or the specs for the V8 mustang, or the signage for the V8 Mustang and posted about it on their facebook and twitter pages… (ok, someone broke the press embargo and somehow conveniently forgot about the waiver they signed.).

While we are very excited about this, and we have little doubt that it will prove to be true, we still consider it a rumor since it’s not coming directly from Ford in an official press release. But five point OH! What a rumor it is! 412 horse and 390 ft/lb of torque coming from a 5 liter when it takes 6.something for the far heavier Chevy Camaro to produce only 10 more horses (422 for those of you without calculators handy).

While some are bemoaning that this news overshadows the news of the marvelous new duratec V6 engine being placed into the 2011 ’stang, we think it only helps generate more excitement for the brand as a whole. The 2010 has been proclaimed by several automotive news agencies as being the best Ford Mustang every produced in all of it’s 45+ years, and it may well be that the 2011 will take that moniker away from the 2010!

Remember just at the beginning of the year, when President Obama signed the CARB initiative into law most car enthusiasts bemoaned the ending of any kind of horsepower wars. Now it looks like we’re just seeing a rebirth!

UPDATE!

per AUTOWEEK (further bending the embargo) The peak power of the 390 ft/lb of torque and 412HP comes at 6,500 RPM! They are also saying the Coyote will return a surprising 25 miles per gallon,. which for a V8 borders on shocking. The all aluminum engine block with four valves per cylinder and variable valve timing. similar to the duratec V6. The V8 GT will also sport tuned exhaust headers, a forged steel crankshaft .

Transmission choices will be either the 6R80 six speed automatic transmission from the F-150 or the MT82 six-speed manual! Six speeds on the V8 really puts the ball in Chevy’s court, and I don’t think we’ll see this ace matched this year!
