Headers Give Your Ford Mustang More Power

Headers Give Your Ford Mustang More Power—that’s a fact.

Aftermarket exhaust headers improve exhaust flow and cylinder scavenging compared to stock cast manifolds or tubular shorty headers. With that, most aftermarket headers (long-tube or short-tube) feature larger-than-stock and often longer primary tubes, and a performance collector design.

If this style header makes more power, why doesn’t the factory use them? Fact is, very few factory vehicles are equipped with an exhaust system that’s optimized for power. That’s because tubular headers are more expensive to produce and they generally don’t fit as tight to the engine, which would slow assembly at the factory.

And while every engine is different, a typical set of high-quality aftermarket headers, like those sold at BrothersPerformance.com can be worth 25-40 horsepower depending on your combination.

In this example, we installed BBK 1 ¾-inch long-tubes which feature 1 ¾-inch primary pipes that are CNC-mandrel bent, a thick 3/8-inch flange for solid sealing, and clean welds for strength and durability. In addition, they have a 2-bolt lower flange with a ball-and-socket collector so you never have to worry about old-fashioned header leaks. And all BBK header kits come with new gaskets, installation hardware, and detailed instructions.

If you’re Coyote is really pumping out the power, you should consider the larger BBK 1 7/8-inch headers. These are more suited for max-effort naturally aspirated engines, supercharged engines or nitrous applications. It’s important to mention that BrothersPerformance.com sells header and exhaust kits for all 1979-present Mustangs, including those with engine swaps.

When you make the move from shorty to long-tube headers, you’ll need a shorter mid-pipe. Fortunately, BBK Performance sells a dedicated X-pipe to mate its long-tubes to virtually any Mustang exhaust. BBK’s mid-pipes feature 3-inch Mandrel Bent Aluminized Tubing, oxygen sensor bungs. Unfortunately, they can’t be sold or shipped to California residents.

Simple modifications that compliment headers on a 2011-2014 Ford Mustang GT are cold-air kits, throttle bodies, flash tuners, gears and exhaust mufflers. If you haven’t done so already, be sure to click on the video to see how much power we gained with our 2011 Mustang GT test car.

Feds Are Now Investigating The 2011, 2012 Ford Mustang 5.0 GT Manual Transmission Problems

Feds Investigating New Ford Mustang
Here is a quick follow up to the You tube video we posted on our Brothers performance Facebook page a few months back of a Mustang owner unable to shift his car into gear on his Chinese gearbox !
David Shepardson/ Detroit News Washington Bureau
Washington — Federal safety officials have opened investigations into new Ford Mustangs with manual transmissions over erratic shifting.
In documents posted Sunday, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it was opening a preliminary investigation into 26,000 2011-12 Mustang vehicles.
NHTSA said it has received 32 complaints alleging an unexpected inability to shift into gear on Mustangs equipped with manual transmissions that some suggested had nearly led to crashes. Some reports said incidents occurred while merging into high speed traffic, while others said incidents occurred while turning left across oncoming traffic.
NHTSA generally investigates for up to a year before deciding whether to upgrade an investigation into an engineering analysis.
In many cases, an investigation ends before then — when either an automaker voluntarily recalls vehicles or the government ends the probe for lack of evidence.
Ford said it was aware of the investigation. “We will fully cooperate with the government as they review this matter,” spokesman Wes Sherwood said.

ODI has received 32 complaints alleging an unexpected inability to shift into gear on model year (MY)2011-2012 Ford Mustangs equipped with manual transmissions. Some reports allege incidents occurred while merging into high speed traffic and others allege that incidents occurred while turning left across oncoming traffic. Some complainants allege that the erratic shifting behavior almost caused a collision with adjacent vehicles. A Preliminary Evaluation has been opened to assess the scope, frequency and potential safety consequences associated with the alleged defect.

New Ford Mustang GT TSB Released For Manual Transmission Problems

NEW Ford Technical Service Bulletin For the Ford Mustang and F150 Truck
We have ALL heard now that most car companies issue TSB Bulletins – Well when it comes to Ford issuing a Technical Service Bulletin, it is mainly to correct an existing problem or defect with a car. Until now, Ford has issued three TSBs for the Mustangs manufactured after 2011 to correct problems with the clutch, fuel pump and cold shifting.
However Ford has released the latest TSB for a different problem:
Ford is saying that this TSB “addresses the fact that“ some 2011 F-150 and 2011-2012 Mustangs equipped with the 5.0L engine may have unauthorized modifications to the power train hardware, which may result in exceeding component limits. Such modifications could cause damage to the powertrain and/or void the factory powertrain warranty.
Attempting to increase the engine output via recalibrating the PCM may result in poor drivability or component failures.
A Ford representative is saying that “customization is a big part of the Mustang ownership experience. This [TSB] is designed to alert people to the possible damage and warranty ‘voiding’ one can incur if they modify their vehicles beyond factory specifications.”
How will this affect this the owners of 2011+Mustangs? First of all, Ford can not automatically void your warranty due to the aftermarket modifications. The fact has backup in the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975 which states that it must be proven that an aftermarket part directly caused a failure to original equipment parts to void a warranty.
Increasing horsepower and torque can be done safely, although it can be done in a harmful way that will damage the engine internal components. Aftermarket products designed and produced correctly will increase your Mustang’s performance and will not void your warranty, a fact stated by MustangDaily.com.
FYI – All the parts that we sell here on the Brothers Performance website will increase your Horsepower and torque Safely and will not cause any kind of warranty issues
